Why training?

Most safety training centres provide maritime safety training based on the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW), adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). The 1978 STCW Convention was the first to establish the basic requirements on training, certification and watch keeping for seafarers on the international level.

Compliance with STCW convention requirements is essential in order to obtain STCW Compliant Licenses and Certificates of Competency. However, the safety training based on STCW convention is not tailored to the specific requirements of ship owners.

One of the most important benefits of training for any organization is the fact that it provides skills inside the organization which reduces the overall cost of operation. High employee turnover may be a serious threat to the existence of an organization, the major benefit of training being the fact that it reduces staff turnover and helps an organization to retain its staff. Better training can provide an organization with a competitive advantage over similar organizations.

A need for training arises due to the technological advancement, need for the improvement of performance, or simply as a part of professional development.
